"Caring for Tomorrow’s Children", as named in May of 1989, is addressing South Carolina’s problem of infant mortality and immunization through a program of public awareness, education, and incentives.

The program aims to create awareness among the state’s citizens that infant mortality is a severe problem and one that affects us all. It also aims to educate about the importance of prenatal, pediatric care and immunization. A health tips, coupon, and keepsake book worth hundreds of dollars in free and discounted goods and services is the centerpiece of the program and acts as an incentive for women to seek prenatal care and well-child care. The coupons, donated by private businesses, correlate with the nine months of prenatal exams and the first year of well-baby visits. After each regular prenatal or well-baby visit, a health care provider validates the coupons designated for that month. A coupon cannot be redeemed until first validated by a health provider.
